Seda’s Fibre-Based Drink Lid Reduces Plastic, Water Usage, and CO2 Emissions

Seda International has launched the EcoFit Lid, a fibre-based alternative for hot and cold beverages designed to reduce CO2 emissions, water usage, and plastic waste. Made from 100% certified renewable fibres, the lid is fully recyclable in the paper stream, with a compostable version also available. A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) indicates it has lower environmental impact than moulded fibre, polystyrene, and polypropylene lids.

EcoFit Lids are designed for use with Seda’s Double Wall cups, ensuring a secure fit with leak- and spill-resistant features. Customizable options allow brands to tailor the lid to consumer preferences. Seda encourages brands to adopt the EcoFit Lid to meet sustainability goals and comply with evolving environmental regulations.

Other industry developments include Berry Global’s recyclable sip lid for reusable cups, Starbucks and Huhtamaki’s trial of moulded fibre lids, and Blue Ocean Closures’ fibre-based cap for sustainable packaging.
