On March 6, 2025, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team announced their initiative to incorporate sustainable carbon fibre composites into their W16 race car for the 2025 season. This marks the first use of such materials in Formula 1, aiming to maintain high performance while reducing environmental impact. The team is collaborating with partners including INEOS Nitriles, Toray, Syensqo, and Sigmatex to develop these materials, which will undergo rigorous testing to meet the sport’s stringent technical standards. This effort aligns with Mercedes’ goal to achieve Net Zero emissions across all scopes by 2040
