Interview with Mr. Jeff Tinsley, Business Development Manager, 3D Composite Manufacturing Ltd

Can you introduce 3DCM Ltd to our readers? What inspired the foundation of the company?
3D Composite Manufacturing Ltd is a fast-growing UK based company, specialising in the production of Carbon Fibre components and moulds, primarily supplying the global Motorsport industry.
The aim of 3DCM is to produce the highest quality and on-time results, whilst advocating and nurturing close and confidential customer relationships. 3DCM is a Tier 1 supplier to most of the Formula One grid and maintains active business engagement within the Aerospace and Marine industries.
The company was founded in 2018 by Mr. Liam Buckwell who has developed a strategy of continual business growth, the continual investment in people & training and an ongoing expansion of the facilities, plant and equipment.
Mr. Buckwell is supported at senior management level by Mr. Samuel Abbott as General Manager and Mr. Jeffrey Tinsley as Development Manager. The leadership team possesses extensive knowledge of the composites industry and technology.
Can you share one or two notable projects you’ve worked on that really highlight what 3DCM can do?
3DCM can design, machine and manufacture composite engineering solutions to bespoke customer specifications, facilitating projects from initial design concepts through to product completion.
The business has worked on significant development projects which have included progressive manufacturing techniques, advanced materials and method R&D and cutting-edge advancements in product evaluation systems.
What trends do you see shaping the future of 3D modelling?
3DCM has substantially invested in advanced metrology scanning systems, which enables the quality and inspection departments to produce real time data comparisons and accurate 3D modelling, whilst expanding the technical capability to reverse engineer technical solutions. This innovative 3D scanning technology will be showcased at MECAM expo 2025.
How do you stay ahead of the curve with rapidly evolving technology in your industry?
3DCM recognizes that advancements in composite technology are often born from within Motorsport industry design and therefore embraces every opportunity to develop new processes, materials & methods with its customers.
The business boasts extensive Autoclave curing capabilities and this area of the production process is due to expand in 2025, from three Motorsport specific Autoclaves to four. This new system will have the same data recording system that 3DCM currently operates to the ISO 9001-2015 quality standard, which further aligns the business with the technical demands of advanced material production and quality control.
What specific products are you showcasing at MECAM Expo 2025?
3DCM will be unveiling its brand-new © Hexagon, MARVELSCAN dynamic referencing 3D scanning capability, which incorporates an integrated photogrammetry set-up, meaning 3DCM can scan using Hexagon’s patented reverse positioning system without the need for targets. This pioneering technology will be showcased at MECAM expo 2025.
Why is this event crucial for the advancement of composites?
Visibility and awareness of the 3DCM brand in new markets such as Dubai and the wider UAE is an expansion potential which the business is very excited to explore.
The company recognises great potential to work with customers who may have requirements to upgrade their Automotive package/collection and 3DCM will position itself to be at the forefront of this supply chain as an international producer of the highest quality carbon fibre reinforced polymer components.
